It is generally recommended to consult with your makeup and/or hair consultant months before the wedding for several reasons:

• Your makeup artist/hairstylist will be able to do a "trial run" through various looks and styles. Sometimes the look you want may need to be adjusted based on your features. This special time with your consultant allows you to practice and customize your look so that you feel comfortable with the end result.
• You and your consultant should get to know each other and develop a good relationship prior to your special day. You want someone on your wedding day who you get along with and helps you to feel that you are in safe hands.
• The sooner you meet with your makeup artist/hairstylist, the sooner you will be able to check one more thing off your list, giving you greater peace of mind before the big day. S/he can recommend specific products and regimens that will help you to improve the health of your skin and hair in preparation for your wedding day. Your consultant may also recommend specific vendors (e.g. photographers, florists, etc.) whom they work with and trust, in case plans are still underway.
